Elf on a Shelf?

When I first saw this I thought to myself what a great idea. Seemed simple enough. I bet the kids really get a kick out of it. Now I’m not too sure. We never had the Elf on a Shelf, and after reading several articles on it, I’m beginning to be thankful we didn’t. I think if it were left in it’s simplest form it would be a great idea, but as usual, things go way beyond the original intent.
