Osprey Comeback
Will Wright had the incredible luck of having his camera in his hand at the right place and time. Driving on Rt 93 south of Boston I caught this shot of an Osprey eating a fish on a light pole through the sun roof of the car I was in. It’s even in focus!
The Osprey has been making a steady recovery after being decimated by DDT through the 50’s and 60’s. I read that 90% of the breading pairs were lost between Boston and New York.
I used to see them in Maine’s Booth Bay region in the 80’s but never around greater Boston. Now they’re here. I even saw one cruising above the Merrimack in Lawrence. If they can make it there, they can make it anywhere.
